Florida Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed the appointment of Cuban-American businessman Máximo Álvarez as a member of the Board of Trustees of Florida State University (FSU), where he will continue to be part of the governing body of one of the state's leading public universities.

According to T, DeSantis announced the reelection of Álvarez along with two other members of the board, all of whom are alumni of FSU.

Álvarez, a Cuban immigrant, is the president of Sunshine Gasoline Distributors, a Florida-based company that operates over 300 gas stations and supplies major brands such as Shell, Chevron, and Exxon.

Graduated in Business Administration from Florida State University, where he obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in the late 1960s, Álvarez has had an outstanding career in the business sector and in public state organizations.

In addition to his role at the university, he has been involved in councils related to trade, child health, and community organizations.

The FSU board plays a key role in the academic and administrative oversight of the institution. Its members are appointed by the governor and must be confirmed by the state Senate, in accordance with Florida's university system.
