The Cuban singer Eduardo Antonio, known as El Divo de Placetas, surprised everyone with a strong message directed at contestant Fiu Fiu, one of the participants in the reality show El Rancho de Destino. In a video posted on his social media, the artist clarified that he had sent a super chat with financial donations to several contestants—including La Diosa, Oyacito, and Kenny—but regretted extending his support to someone who, as he stated, turned out to be "ungrateful."
"I am providing this explanation because today Ferrán informed some of the contestants that I had sent a super chat of money: 100 dollars to La Diosa, to my godchildren Oyacito and Kenny, and to a person from the house whom I will not mention, because I will not lower myself to their level," the Divo explained at the beginning of his video. Then, without mentioning him directly, he referred to Fiu Fiu with harsh words: "You don't throw pearls to pigs. And that is what I did: I threw pearls to a pig who was ungrateful."
Eduardo Antonio stated that his gesture had come from empathy when he heard the contestant talk about "getting out of drugs" and his mother, but he felt betrayed when Fiu Fiu publicly disqualified him. "I am a man, a gay man, and if you think poorly of me, it’s because I represent everything you are not: a talented artist, successful, happily married, loved, and victorious," the performer expressed, visibly upset.
The artist also stated that Fiu Fiu occupies a spot that was originally meant for him in the reality show. “If you’re there, you owe it to me, because I was supposed to be in El Rancho de Destino. I had other commitments, and that vacant spot was offered to you. You’re my substitute, and you’re going to have to be grateful to me for life,” he declared.
The video sparked a flood of reactions on social media, mostly in support of the Divo. “Wow, I loved this man, wise words. More of a man than anyone,” commented one follower. “Bravo Divo, Fiu Fiu out in the street,” wrote another user. “Among all the qualities you mentioned about yourself, you left out one very important one: education. That guy doesn’t even come close to you,” said another internet user, while another fan added, “Even if the ground is even, there are levels, and the Divo is the Divo.” There were also those who urged for more calm: “Eduardo, don’t stoop down, you don’t need to respond to anyone,” although most agreed that his words were an elegant and forceful conclusion: “Better said, impossible,” “a gentleman with class,” and “elegant even when putting someone in their place,” summarized some of the most repeated comments.
