The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Wednesday that he had an “excellent phone conversation” with the interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, and claimed that both governments are making “extraordinary progress” as Washington helps Venezuela to “stabilize and recover.”

“This alliance between the United States and Venezuela will be spectacular for everyone,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, highlighting that they discussed oil, minerals, trade, and national security.

In the same message, Trump stated that "Venezuela will soon be great and prosperous again, perhaps more than ever!" framing the call as part of a new understanding with the interim government in Caracas following the capture of Nicolás Maduro in early January.

Earlier, Trump described the conversation as "excellent," stating that it was a "long" call, during which they covered "many topics" and that the relationship "is going very well."

In that same appearance, he praised Rodríguez again as "a wonderful person" and noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is involved in efforts with Caracas.

Both parties characterized the dialogue as positive, addressing energy and security issues in a context of possible thawing after years of tension and sanctions.

Trump's message reaffirmed that oil is one of the key elements of the rapprochement.

In the press conference from the White House, the president mentioned that Venezuela "gave them" 50 million barrels, in a phrasing that has varied in recent days between "millions of barrels" (as a total volume) and "daily" references in other news reports.

Trump's statement comes as the U.S. administration moves forward with its strategy toward Venezuela following the capture of Maduro.

In this context, Trump is scheduled to meet at the White House with opposition leader María Corina Machado, part of a series of engagements that keeps the focus on how Washington's dialogue with Venezuelan stakeholders will be structured.

This Wednesday, Trump presented the communication with Rodríguez as part of a phase of cooperation with the current government, alongside the internal decisions in Venezuela and the debate on the political direction of the country.
