The Embassy of Italy in Havana announced on Facebook that its Consular Office will be closed to the public on March 16 and 17, 2026, a decision that directly affects Cubans who rely on these procedures for travel, status regularization, or advancement in citizenship processes.

According to the official statement, the closure is due to an extraordinary update of the computer systems. During these two days, regular consular services such as passport issuance, Italian citizenship procedures, registrations in AIRE, and document legalizations will not be available.

The only exception will be the Visa Office, which will continue to operate normally, maintaining its usual hours and previously confirmed appointments. This clarification is crucial for those with travel plans or ongoing immigration processes who feared a complete halt.

The consulate windows will reopen regularly on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, according to the notice issued by the Italian diplomatic mission in the Cuban capital, which also apologized for any inconvenience this suspension may cause.

In a context marked by migration, the search for opportunities outside the island, and the high demand for consular services, any interruption creates uncertainty and tension among applicants.

For many Cubans, a missed appointment or a postponed procedure can mean delaying personal projects, family reunifications, or long-awaited departures from the country.
