The Consulate of Mexico in Havana denied this Saturday the rumors spread on social media about a supposed elimination of the visa requirement for Cuban citizens wishing to travel to Mexican territory.
Attention! Information is circulating on social media about the supposed issuance of a free or waived Mexican visa for Cuban citizens. This is false. There are no changes to the requirements or procedures for obtaining a Mexican visa, warned the diplomatic mission in a statement published on its official account on X (formerly Twitter).
The Consulate emphasized that the only valid information regarding consular procedures is available on the official websites and accounts of the government of Mexico, such as the portal consulmex.sre.gob.mx/la-habana or the verified profiles of @ConsulMexLH, @SRE_mx, and @EmbamexCuba.
Mexican authorities reiterated their call to Cuban citizens not to be misled by posts or supposed agencies that promise automatic visas, waivers, or expedited processes in exchange for money.
"Don't be deceived," emphasized the Consulate, reminding that consular procedures are not managed through intermediaries or unofficial websites.
In recent months, multiple false information regarding visas and immigration processes has circulated on social media and messaging groups, coinciding with the increase in Cuban migration to Mexico and the United States.
Authorities have even detected fake profiles impersonating official accounts to offer "express visas" or fraudulent consular appointments in the context of the Cuban migration crisis.
As of now, Mexico maintains the requirement of a consular visa for Cuban citizens, a condition reinstated since December 2021 due to the increase in irregular migration to its territory.
The document must be processed in person at the Consulate in Havana, with an appointment and the presentation of supporting travel documents, proof of financial stability, and ties to Cuba.
The Mexican government has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safe and orderly channels for human mobility, while also warning against the use of unverified information or information from unofficial sources.
