The Republican congressman from Florida, Carlos A. Giménez, introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives to recognize President Donald Trump, his administration, and the armed forces and security of the United States for the success of "Operation Absolute Resolution," which led to the capture of the Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.
The measure, identified as H.Res. 998, praises Trump for his “extraordinary political courage” in authorizing the operation that, according to Giménez, dismantled a “criminal narco-terrorist regime” and reaffirmed respect for the rule of law, reported the news outlet Florida’s Voice.
"This resolution acknowledges the extraordinary political value of President Trump for authorizing an operation that ended a criminal regime and reaffirmed law and order," Giménez stated in a statement.
The resolution also expresses gratitude to the White House team, the Armed Forces, the intelligence community, and the Department of Justice for the "remarkable effectiveness" of the action in Caracas.
Giménez, who escaped the Cuban communist regime as a child, highlighted the precision of the mission and the absence of U.S. casualties, describing it as a "humanitarian feat" and a "seismic event for the Western Hemisphere."
The "Operation Absolute Resolution," carried out in the early hours of January 3, 2026, involved elite units of U.S. special operations, over 150 aircraft, cyber operations, and the neutralization of Venezuelan air defenses.
The operation concluded with the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who were transferred to the United States to face federal charges of drug trafficking and possession of weapons stemming from an indictment issued in 2020.
Officials from the Trump administration have described the action as a law enforcement operation against drug terrorism, backed by the legitimate use of the president's constitutional authority.
Maduro remains detained in a prison in New York, after pleading not guilty on January 5 in a federal court.
