Washington will be the stage this Thursday for an unprecedented diplomatic event since the beginning of the Venezuelan transition. María Corina Machado, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and a central figure of the opposition, will be received at the White House by President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio
According to EFE, this visit marks the formal entry of Machado into the political process promoted by the United States following the capture of Nicolás Maduro, and it occurs concurrently with the presence in Washington of envoys from the interim government of Delcy Rodríguez, who will engage in discussions with U.S. officials and diplomats.
Machado will be joined by members of her team from Comando Con Venezuela, including former mayor David Smolansky, who is close to Rubio's circle and to Florida Republican Congress members María Elvira Salazar and Carlos Giménez.
The meeting symbolizes Washington's bid to open simultaneous channels with the opposition and with representatives of the new government, as part of a pragmatic strategy for political stabilization.
Other figures of the Venezuelan opposition, such as Leopoldo López and Juan Guaidó, are also in the U.S. capital, having reestablished contact with local media and political actors amid this new scenario.
The diplomatic round took place just hours after Trump revealed that he had a “long and productive” phone conversation with Delcy Rodríguez, highlighting the White House's willingness to maintain direct communication with all parties while consolidating its central role in the Venezuelan transition.
