The Southern District of New York Prosecutor's Office filed a formal charge against Nicolás Ernesto Maduro Guerra, known as “Nicolasito”, for his alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking and conspiracy network.

The measure expands the criminal case against his father, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and his stepmother, Cilia Flores, both of whom were detained by U.S. forces on January 3 in Caracas.

According to a report from Martí Noticias, the United States Department of Justice has included the son of the former Venezuelan president in the case United States v. Nicolás Maduro Moros, which details drug trafficking operations linked to armed groups in the region.

The accusation describes Maduro Guerra as an active member of a network dedicated to trafficking cocaine and weapons into U.S. territory.

The court document states that in 2020, "Nicolasito" traveled to Medellín, Colombia, where he met with representatives of the FARC dissidents to coordinate the transportation of large quantities of drugs to the United States. In exchange, agreements were reportedly made for payments in weapons and logistical resources. According to the prosecutors, the plan was purportedly kept operational until at least 2026.

The accusation also indicates that Maduro Guerra used aircraft from the state oil company PDVSA to carry out flights with illegal shipments to international destinations. Prosecutors identify him as a direct accomplice in the logistics of drug trafficking alongside his father and the former Venezuelan first lady.

After the capture of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores, Maduro Guerra has played a prominent role in public events in Caracas.

This Sunday, during a religious gathering in Plaza Bolívar, the PSUV deputy declared that Venezuela "is healing" from the military attack on January 3, but warned that the country "cannot forget" that day.

"The mark of the military attack will remain for a lifetime," he said in statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión.

Meanwhile, Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores remain incarcerated in a federal prison in New York, in the custody of the United States government, awaiting trial on charges of narco-terrorism and international conspiracy.
