A Cuban woman moved thousands of users on TikTok by answering a question that many have asked themselves at some point: What would you do if Cuba were free tomorrow?
In the video, posted by the user @_____eli85, the woman could not hold back her tears as she remembered her father, whom she described as "one of the most anti-communist men" she had ever known.
"I would visit my dad's grave. My dad is one of the most anti-communist men I have ever known in my life, and one of his great dreams, he always said, was to see Cuba free. I would visit his grave and tell him: 'Pipo, Cuba is finally free,'" she said through tears.
The Cuban woman confessed to having mixed feelings when imagining that moment. “I know that day is near. I would be very happy, but also a little sad not to be able to share it with my father,” she added.
The video generated dozens of comments from other Cubans inside and outside the island, many of whom expressed that they would do the same: visit deceased relatives who died without witnessing the end of the communist system.
Among the messages, phrases like "that day will come" and "the first thing will be to hug my loved ones in a Cuba without fear" are repeated.
The video adds to a wave of posts where Cubans contemplate what their lives would be like in a free Cuba, amid one of the worst economic, social, and political crises the country is experiencing under the regime of Miguel Díaz-Canel and the military control led by Raúl Castro.
