The Cuban-Dominican comedian Marcello Hernández once again won over the audience, but this time not with one of his jokes, rather thanks to his Cuban mother, Isabel Cancela. During an interview on the show “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle”, the Saturday Night Live actor proudly introduced the woman he admires the most, who also does not allow anyone to mess with her son.
Amid laughter, Isabel confessed that she created a fake account on Instagram to respond to negative comments about Marcello. "When I see something bad about him, I write: 'Oh, I'm sure you're funnier,' or 'Wow, what a negative person,'" she shared.
Marcello, laughing, explained that he finds his mother's actions extremely amusing and recalled one of those memorable moments: “Once someone commented that I wasn't funny at all, and my mom responded: ‘I would like to see you try to do what he does’,” he recounted, eliciting laughter on set.
The clip went viral after the show shared it on TikTok, where users praised Isabel. "That's a real Cuban mom!", "Now we understand where her charm comes from," and "We need more moms like her" were some of the most repeated messages.
And Marcello always speaks fondly of his mother. He mentions her in his monologues, in interviews, and even in his Netflix special, making it clear that Isabel is his greatest inspiration. He describes her as a strong, fun, and charismatic woman… in other words, a true Cuban mom.
