A Cuban resident in Brazil recounted in a video posted on TikTok that she was on the verge of losing her job due to a complaint from another compatriot who, she claimed, falsely accused her of behaving with a sense of superiority in front of customers.
"I am Cuban, I have been living in Brazil for almost five months, and I work as a cashier in a market. That day, I was talking with some Brazilian customers when two Cubans, who were behind me, started making offensive comments about me," said the young woman identified as @malenamesaa on the social network.
The woman explained that she did not understand the reason for the attack, as she did not know the other Cuban women who allegedly claimed that she was "crazy" and "smoked chemicals."
"I don't understand how someone who doesn't know me can speak about me like that just because I'm conversing with others in Portuguese," she stated. According to her testimony, one of the women filed a complaint at her workplace claiming that she believed herself to be "superior to the clients," which nearly cost her the job.
The young woman lamented that some Cubans abroad maintain attitudes of rivalry or mistrust towards each other instead of supporting one another. "Your inferiority complex makes you feel inferior to anyone. I am incapable of looking down on someone," she added.
Her story generated numerous supportive comments on social media, where many users agreed that Cubans should be more supportive of one another, especially those who emigrate and face the challenges of adapting to a new country.
