A Cuban mother appeared in tears in a video posted on social media, where she shows the new sandals she managed to buy for her son and expresses her exhaustion over the criticism of her appearance.
"I crumble in the face of the lack of empathy from many... I'm sorry... I know they will continue to talk about my nails, my hair, and my clothes, but I am so tired of explaining," the young woman confessed in the description of the recording.
In the video, the woman explains that the flip-flops cost 4,000 Cuban pesos and that her husband, a licensed professional, earns less than 5,000 pesos a month. “My son spent a week asking for a pair of flip-flops in a larger size because the ones he had were already too small. We struggled just to be able to buy them,” she said, visibly upset.
The Cuban took the opportunity to respond to users who criticize her for having styled hair or wearing items of sentimental value. “My nails in Cuba are inexpensive, I only do my roots, and the pieces were gifts for my 15th birthday. I would never sell them because of their sentimental value,” she stated.
Amid tears, she lamented that many focus on judging instead of understanding the difficulties families on the island face. “If you don’t like seeing a humble home, don’t watch my content. I am humble but with a lot of pride. I am not dirty; I keep my house as tidy as possible,” she said, her voice trembling.
The woman also expressed her emotional exhaustion from the attacks she receives on social media. “I’m sentimental, I can’t help it. Sometimes I seem strong-willed, but I’m not. I hesitated a lot before starting to create content for fear of having to defend myself against so many people who criticize everything,” she admitted.
The testimony has generated significant impact among users, who praised the woman's sincerity and bravery in showcasing her daily reality amidst the deep economic and social crisis that Cuba is experiencing.
