A tragedy marked by negligence shook the municipality of Morón in Ciego de Ávila on Wednesday night, when a motorcyclist lost his life after crashing into an abandoned iron platform on a public road during a widespread blackout.

The incident, which occurred following the official activities in that locality during the March of the Torches, has sparked deep outrage and has been labeled as an act of "criminal negligence."

The incident

The activist Irma Broek was the first to report what had happened with a chilling testimony:

"Tonight, a heartbreaking incident occurred in Morón that cannot go unreported," he wrote, directly pointing to those responsible for the political event that, once concluded, left "a massive iron stage, a true metal colossus," abandoned in the street without any signage, protection, or security.

In the midst of the total darkness caused by the blackout, Alexander Guerra, 36 years old and father of two children - a 9-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy - was riding his motorcycle when he collided with an invisible structure. The impact was fatal.

According to Broek, a video recorded at the scene showed a heartbreaking sight: a woman trying to revive him while he lay motionless, covered in blood.

In a cruel twist of fate, the accident occurred on the same day as Alexander's youngest son's birthday, adding an even more tragic nuance to the story.

"An avoidable tragedy. A family torn apart on a child's birthday," the activist stated.

Witnesses of the incident reported that at the time of the accident, the only source of light in the area was the ETECSA building, apparently powered by a generator, while everything else remained in darkness.

The police were already on the scene when some neighbors arrived, drawn by the shouts in the midst of a night without power.

A second victim and the foretold danger

The pain does not stop with a single family.

According to the news outlet La Tijera, another young man also on a motorcycle was involved in an accident at the same location and is currently in critical condition at the Hospital de Morón.

The platform directly pointed to the regime's institutions as responsible

“Once again, a Cuban family is in mourning due to the negligence of a system that prioritizes political propaganda over human life”, denounced La Tijera.

The questions that cannot be evaded

The journalist José Luis Tan Estrada confirmed the events through his social media

“A motorcycle crashed into a platform placed in the middle of the road due to the March of the Torches, which was not removed in time,” he explained, adding that “the accident occurred during a blackout, significantly reducing visibility.”

Hours later, a patrol was stationed at the site to prevent further accidents, but for many, the intervention was too late.

The denunciation: improvisation and disregard for life

"It's not an accident," Broek insisted.

“It is the predictable result of irresponsibility, improvisation, and disregard for the lives of ordinary people,” he added.

For the activist, the issue is not just the presence of the platform, but the entire system of priorities that leads to placing a political event above public safety.

“While some march and take selfies, others pay with their lives for the carelessness and arrogance of those who believe they own the street and the lives of others,” he condemned.

The authorities' silence has been, up to now, total. No official statement has been issued regarding the events, nor has there been any mention of whether an investigation or sanction against the organizers of the political event will be initiated.
