A young Cuban lost his life due to the severe injuries he sustained in a traffic accident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, in the center of the city of Santiago de Cuba.
In the accident involving two motorcycles, Félix Yoan Pozo Leyva, a 28-year-old resident of Chicharrones, lost his life, confirmed sources to the communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Trocha Street, between Celda and Pizarro, in the central area of the eastern city.
According to the reports published on Facebook, the two motorcycles collided, and one of them ended up crashing into a pole, becoming destroyed. The other one was left lying on the pavement.
The motorcycle that collided with the pole was driven by Félix Yoan, who died from the severe injuries caused by the violent crash. Witnesses described a harrowing scene at the site and stated that the motorcycle was thrown several meters away.
“Very sad, he was a young man and a good person. He only focused on his business,” said a person who knew the victim to Mayeta. In the comments of the posts, a user noted that he worked in auto body repair.
The passing of Félix Yoan has left his family in mourning and is a heavy blow to his mother, Yoandra, as noted by those close to him. The young man was the father of a child.
His tragic end has also shocked friends and neighbors in his community, who "deeply mourn this sudden loss," Mayeta emphasized.
Hundreds of people, including friends, family, and classmates, have left messages of condolence on social media, expressing their sorrow for the early death of Félix Yoan, whom they described as a good young man, respectful, responsible, loving, and cheerful.
The information released has not specified whether the rider of the other motorcycle involved in the crash was injured. So far, there has been no official report on the incident.
Over the weekend, another tragic accident in the municipality of Contramaestre, in Santiago de Cuba, claimed the life of a 26-year-old man when the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a truck.
This month, numerous fatal accidents have been reported across various provinces in the country. One of the most serious occurred in Moa, Holguín, where six people died and five were injured.
Days later, in Jagüey Grande, Matanzas, a traffic incident took the life of a 13-year-old girl and the driver of the vehicle in which the minor was traveling with her parents, who were seriously injured.
