Alfredo Carballo González, the Cuban who was wanted as the main suspect in the murder of his fellow countryman Daylon Fleitas González last August in Miami-Dade, was arrested this Tuesday in Mexico, where he was hiding, and extradited to Florida.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) reported this Thursday that Carballo was captured by Mexican authorities on January 27 and extradited to Miami. Upon his arrival, he was arrested by homicide detectives from the MDSO and was charged accordingly, according to reports from the local press.
Carballo, 33 years old, is charged with second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence following the disappearance of Fleitas, a 37-year-old father residing in Hialeah, whose body was found on August 9, 2025, near the Everglades.
In the case, there is also a second suspect involved, the Cuban Ariely Álvarez Cabrera, 27 years old and the girlfriend of Carballo, who faces two felony charges: concealment after the homicide and tampering with physical evidence.
After the crime, both fled to Mexico with their baby who was only five months old. Immediately, authorities launched a search for the couple and requested the public's assistance in locating them.
Álvarez was arrested in Mexico in September and extradited to South Florida. The minor was rescued safe and sound; upon arrival in Miami-Dade, they were placed under the custody of child protective services.
The murder of Daylon Fleitas González has been regarded as one of the most disturbing crimes committed in 2025 in southern Florida.
The Cuban disappeared on August 3 in the city of Hialeah. The investigation into his disappearance led the police to discover that on that day he had met with Carballo in a truck parking lot in the area of Northwest 95 Avenue and 106 Street, in Medley.
According to an internal document from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, Fleitas went to the location to meet with his friend Carballo in order to collect the $10,000 that he owed him.
A surveillance video obtained by authorities shows that both entered Fleitas' Ford F-150 truck, where a violent altercation took place.
Moments later, the victim is seen falling from the vehicle, and Carballo drags the body and puts it into a recycling container, which he places in the back of Fleitas's truck. He then leaves the scene, driving the vehicle, while his girlfriend follows in another one.
On August 8, the police located the victim's truck in a field near Southwest 227th Avenue and Southwest 260th Street, with traces of blood inside and "multiple items of evidentiary value," according to reports cited by the press.
The next day, Fleitas' body was found inside a recycling container abandoned in a wooded area of Southwest 203rd Avenue. He had numerous stab wounds, according to the Miami-Dade medical examiner's office.
