Cuban-American Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart stated this Thursday in Miami that Cuba “has never been closer to freedom,” asserting that the regime is experiencing its weakest moment after decades of internal crisis and increasing international pressure.

The statements were made during a press conference at the headquarters of the Cuban Democratic Directorate, where Díaz-Balart was joined by fellow congressman Carlos Giménez, members of the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance, exile organizations, elected local officials, and community activists.

Díaz-Balart emphasized that the shift in U.S. policy has been crucial. He recalled that just two years ago, measures were being discussed that, in his view, aimed to facilitate the Cuban regime's access to the U.S. financial system and legitimize a government that he described as "anti-American." "None of this was a mistake," he stated, maintaining that these were intentional attempts to support the dictatorship.

In contrast, he highlighted the role of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, thanking them for adopting a tough stance on Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.

According to the congressman, the current U.S. leadership has made it clear that threats to national security and the presence of authoritarian regimes in the hemisphere will not be tolerated.

"The regime in Cuba has never been so weak," Díaz-Balart insisted, pointing out that the internal crisis on the island, combined with international pressure, has created a decisive moment. In that context, he called for intensifying actions against governments and external actors that, he alleged, continue to provide resources, legitimacy, and funding to the Cuban system.

During his speech, he also appealed to the Cuban exile community and its historical role in the struggle against Castroism. He acknowledged decades of sacrifice, resistance, and suffering, emphasizing that this effort has not been in vain. "It only takes a little push," he said, referring to the need to maintain political and diplomatic pressure.

The message included a direct call to Cubans on the island, assuring them that all these actions aim to restore their freedom, sovereignty, and the possibility of living with dignity and prosperity.

Although he acknowledged that difficult times are ahead, Díaz-Balart concluded his speech by reaffirming his belief that the outcome is near. "We have never been this close to freedom, and we will not stop," he assured, promising that he will continue working until, as he stated, the Cuban regime definitively ends up "in the dustbin of history."
