Family members of political prisoners gathered outside El Helicoide in Caracas after the announcement of an Amnesty Law presented to the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) by President Delcy Rodríguez.
According to reports on social media, family members demanded the release of all those detained for political reasons, chanting slogans like "Let them all go," amid an atmosphere of expectation and tension.
Journalist Marcos David Velazco reported that, in Zone 7, family members symbolically chained themselves together to demand the full freedom of those detained for political reasons in Venezuela.
"We are on the brink of witnessing the miracle of freedom and justice in a country that is ready to heal its wounds and embark on the path of reconciliation and the rebuilding of a great nation," Velazco stated in his post.
For his part, the communicator Sergio Novelli noted that mothers of political prisoners detained in Zone 7 of the PNB, in Boleíta, used chains as a symbol of the liberation of their relatives, after learning about the amnesty proposal presented by Delcy Rodríguez before the TSJ.
The day before, Rodríguez announced a “general amnesty law” for the political prisoners in the country, with the aim —as he stated— of “promoting coexistence in Venezuela.”
The announcement was made during an event at the Superior Court of Justice and, according to reports, the regulation will be brought to the National Assembly for discussion and approval "likely next week."
The measure could benefit hundreds of political prisoners who are still incarcerated, in a context marked by a process of releases that, according to Chavismo itself, exceeds 600 releases, although advocates for the detainees lower that figure to 302.
