The President of the United States, Donald Trump, harshly criticized the Democrats for their stance on crime, accusing them of protecting criminals at the expense of American citizens.
In a message posted on his Truth Social account early Sunday morning, the president wrote: “The biggest problem our Country has is that the Democrats are SOFT ON CRIME! They want to protect the Criminal, violent and vicious as they may be, at the expense of our great American Citizens and Patriots. That is not what America is about, and never will be! President DJT.”
The publication comes amid a climate of political tension following the agreement reached by the White House and Senate Democrats to prevent the federal government shutdown, which included a temporary extension of funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) while negotiations on immigration policy continue.
The bipartisan pact seeks to keep most federal agencies funded until September, but it left open differences regarding border control and the role of immigration forces, topics that Trump has placed at the center of his agenda.
The president had already issued a warning on Saturday to the cities governed by Democrats, stating that the federal government would not intervene in protests or riots unless local authorities formally requested assistance. "Under no circumstances will we participate in the protests or disturbances in those cities, unless we are asked for help," he wrote then.
With this new statement, Trump reinforces his "law and order" rhetoric and reiterates his position that local governments and the Democratic Party have adopted "soft" policies regarding crime and illegal immigration.
