The Cuban professional boxer Gustavo Trujillo, known as "The Cuban Assassin," has once again ignited social media with a direct and provocative challenge against veteran fighter Yoel Romero, urging him to face off in a bare-knuckle heavyweight match.
In a video shared on Facebook, Trujillo questioned Romero's recent withdrawal from a fight and cast doubt on both his account and his weight class.
"Hey, soldier. I just heard that you backed out of the fight with Lorenzo Hong. I thought it was because you had the flu. You had a cold and couldn't fight, right?" he shot back.
"You're no longer a 205, kid. Stop lying to people. You're a full weight. Do you know why? Because the trunk of your car doesn’t fit in your pants. You're a little chubby. All full of muscle," she teased.
Trujillo stated that Romero cannot make the light heavyweight weight and suggested that he fight at heavyweight instead.
Then came the frontal challenge: “And if you don’t have an opponent, I’m here (…) To see if I can take you out now.”
The message concluded with a boastful and personal tone.
"You know that the mess between you and me, you and I, is a mess that will last for the rest of our lives. Fight in heavyweight, because that’s your weight. Doll," she concluded.
Who is Yoel Romero today?
Yoel Romero Palacio, the individual from Pinar del Río known as the "Soldier of God," comes off a high-profile end to the year.
In December, he was proclaimed interim champion of the Real American Freestyle (RAF) in its fourth edition, returning to his roots in wrestling and receiving an ovation from the audience at the Fisher Event Center.
At 48 years old (turning 49 in April), the Olympic silver medalist from Sydney 2000 and former UFC star has once again proven his competitive relevance in a format that combines wrestling and entertainment.
Previously, in September, Romero made a successful debut in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).
At BKFC 80, held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, he achieved a spectacular victory over Theo Doukas, decided in the second round by the referee's order.
A rivalry that goes back a long way
The public clash between Trujillo and Romero is not new.
In July of last year, "The Cuban Assassin" had already challenged the "Soldier of God" to a face-to-face fight, after congratulating him on signing with bare-knuckle boxing.
"My invitation to a fight between you and me still stands," he emphasized then.
That message was powerful: "I’m still here waiting for you to find the courage and say my name… Look for a big name in this sport. And if we’re going to talk about big names, you know mine is on the list."
Trujillo also suggested that the event take place in Miami and concluded with irony: "Fans and haters... what better opportunity than this: to hold a great event here in Miami to see how you beat me."
Even earlier, in January 2025, he had issued his first direct challenge: "Yoel Romero, 'the little tin soldier'. Are you still hiding, my friend? Are we going to fight, or are we not going to fight?"
Will there be a fight?
A possible duel between the two sparks enormous interest: two Cuban figures from different generations, with different styles and a history of success outside the island.
While many fans are calling for the fight, others believe that a "Cuban vs. Cuban" match should not be a reason for confrontation.
For now, Trujillo is publicly pressing and the spotlight is on Yoel Romero, who has not responded to this latest challenge.
If accepted, the fight could become one of the most talked-about events of the year in the bare-knuckle boxing circuit.
