A huge waste dump is growing in front of the nursing home in Caibarién, Villa Clara, creating a serious source of pollution that endangers the health of the residents in the facility, many of whom have weakened immune systems.
The Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) reported the situation through a video showing piles of accumulated trash, including organic waste and decomposing materials, just meters away from the facilities where dozens of elderly people and community residents live.
The organization warned that this focus of unsanitary conditions poses a direct threat to the right to life and health of the elderly, given the evident lack of management by local authorities.
Residents of the area claim that the dump has not been cleared for many weeks, as the foul odor intensifies and the proliferation of insects and rodents increases.
The government assures that this is a priority, but images of garbage dumps across Cuba show that the authorities are unable to resolve the waste crisis.
