A Cuban resident in Homestead publicly reported having been fined by city inspectors due to an alleged violation related to trash, which, according to his testimony, was actually left by a homeless person in a nearby area.

The incident was shared via a video on the Facebook Técnicas De Pesca Y Más page. The affected individual expressed their outrage over what happened and described the incident as an abuse by the local authorities.

“Once again, the city of Homestead is abusing. People like these shouldn’t be working for the city”, he expressed, visibly upset at the beginning of the recording.

In the video, the man —identified as Ricardo— recounted that a city inspector, supposedly named Kyle Johnson (or “Quire Johnson”, based on pronunciation), fined him after finding a box with his address among the items collected under a tree.

The Cuban assured that those materials belonged to a homeless person who had improvised a kind of shelter there with cardboard, a mattress, and other items.

“That's not a trash heap, that's like a little house that a man invented. From those cartons, from the trash can brass, he chose a small box with my address. And this man came and said: they threw garbage here. He didn't have the brains to realize that this isn't mine.”, Ricardo explained indignantly.

The affected individual also reported that after being fined for alleged "illegal waste," the inspector visited his home and issued another violation, claiming that he had changed the door of his house without permission and was disposing of construction materials.

“He wrote me up again, another ticket. I have to go to court,” she said, expressing her frustration about the situation.

Ricardo described the official's behavior as a possible case of racism. “I believe that when he saw my name, he thought: this is a Latino, let's take him and mess with him,” he stated, pointing out that the inspector “is looking for things to write tickets.”

The Cuban asked other residents of Homestead to share their cases and report if they have had similar experiences with the same inspector. “This seems to have gone too far. I have never seen anything like this,” he concluded.

So far, the authorities in the city of Homestead have not made any public statements regarding the incident or the discrimination allegations raised by the citizen.
