The 34th Havana International Book Fair, scheduled to take place from February 12 to 22, has been canceled.
The event "is postponed as a consequence of the 'extraordinary situation' that the country is experiencing, caused by the genocidal blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba and its new escalation of aggression to economically suffocate our people and attempt to destroy the Revolution," explains, in line with the official propaganda, a note from the Cuban Institute of the Book.
"The new date for this important cultural event will be communicated in due course," they add.
This Friday, the Cuban regime announced a series of measures in response to the energy crisis and the official call for conservation following the sanctions imposed by the Trump Administration.
According to the explanation provided, the reduction is directly related to current availability: “since there is not enough fuel, we cannot maintain the sales levels we had previously,” announced Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, this Friday on the official program Mesa Redonda.
The measures include limiting fuel purchases for Cubans, a drastic reduction in the number of national train departures, and restrictions on worker transfers, prioritizing sectors such as health, ports, and airports.
