The Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Óscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, great-nephew of Fidel and Raúl Castro, stated on the official program Mesa Redonda that the Cuban Government did not come to the television space “to make justifications.”

In the same segment, he stated: “We do not want to justify ourselves with the blockade; there are a number of internal deficiencies”.

According to what was said, the aim of the announced measures is to “minimize the impact on the Cuban population” in light of the “acute fuel shortages” the country is experiencing.

Pérez-Oliva stated that “it is the moment” to implement a “set of measures” and asserted that electricity generation is being sustained with national crude oil, as well as services in hospitals.

In the same intervention, he stated that municipalities must "produce," referring to the need to enhance local capabilities in response to the current situation.

The official also mentioned that the country is preparing for the defense and protection of economic activities that generate foreign currency, as part of the priorities outlined in the current scenario.

Finally, following the presentation on Mesa Redonda, the leaders would make contact with the population to explain the measures implemented as part of the government plan in response to the fuel crisis.
