Cuban actor Marlon Pijuán experienced a new moment of tension in Mexico this Sunday, February 8, after feeling an earthquake in Mexico City (CDMX). The artist, who currently resides in the Mexican capital, shared his experience through a video posted on his Instagram account, recorded while he was walking down the street after the seismic alarm was activated.
"What a Sunday... Earthquake #3 in CDMX. Can it be Monday already? If you live here in CDMX, are you okay?" Pijuán wrote in the post that accompanied the video, in which he can be seen walking through the area while several people remain outside buildings and homes as part of the safety protocol.
The images depict a common scene for those living in Mexico City: neighbors gathered in the street after a precautionary evacuation, waiting for official instructions. The actor himself jokes about the fact that, thanks to the earthquakes, he now knows all the residents of his block.
According to reports from the National Seismological Service (SSN), several earthquakes were recorded this Sunday, February 8, in various regions of the country, as part of the usual activity in one of the most seismically active areas in the world. In addition to Mexico City, earthquakes were reported in states such as Oaxaca, Guerrero, Chiapas, and Michoacán, regions where tectonic activity is common.
Mexico is situated at the intersection of five tectonic plates—North America, Cocos, Pacific, Rivera, and Caribbean— which explains the recurrence of low to moderate intensity tremors throughout the year. For this reason, the authorities maintain constant monitoring 24 hours a day, with the goal of providing prompt information and activating safety protocols when necessary.
During the day, microseisms were also recorded, which are movements of very low magnitude that are generally not felt by the population and do not trigger seismic alerts. However, they are part of the normal geological behavior of the country and are documented by the SSN for scientific analysis and risk prevention.
So far, Marlon Pijuán has not reported any personal or material damages, and his post generated numerous reactions from followers who sent messages of support and shared similar experiences following the earthquake.
