The regime assured this Monday that Cuban banks have been prepared for some time to operate even without electricity, as part of the official plan in response to the severe fuel shortages affecting the country.

During a new broadcast of the program Mesa Redonda, the President of the Central Bank of Cuba, Juana Lilia Delgado Portal, stated that the banking system continues to operate nationwide, although with adjustments to the hours of those branches that do not have generators or other alternative sources of power.

The official explained that for years investments have been made to increase energy self-sufficiency in certain bank branches, including the installation of photovoltaic systems, which allows basic operations to continue even amid blackouts.

Delgado Portal noted that, even under these conditions, services such as the payment of pensions and salaries, deposits, cash withdrawals, and other essential transactions for the population have been guaranteed. However, he emphasized the need to reorganize in-person services to adapt to energy limitations.

The minister urged the public and legal entities to prioritize the use of digital channels for making payments, transfers, inquiries, and other procedures, with the aim of reducing trips to bank branches and the associated fuel consumption from transportation.

"We must consider the most vulnerable. It's a way to make our lives easier," reflected the official, emphasizing that the use of digital platforms is essential in a context marked by mobility challenges and energy restrictions.

Delgado Portal also confirmed that foreign exchange services in Cuba continue to be available, both through CADECA and at bank branches, as well as international payments related to exports and prioritized activities, although he cautioned that in some cases, there will be adjustments to operating hours.

The president of the Central Bank stated that the banking system will continue to prioritize essential operations for the economy and society, and expressed confidence that the public will understand the current situation and the necessary changes in the provision of services.

Finally, he urged customers to stay informed through the social media channels of the banks and the Central Bank of Cuba, where changes in hours, operational adjustments, and ways to address possible complaints or claims will be announced.
