The President of the United States, Donald Trump, issued a direct warning on Wednesday to lawmakers from his own party, stating that any Republican in the House of Representatives or the Senate who votes against his agenda will face serious consequences during election times, including during the primaries.
"Any Republican, in the House or the Senate, who votes against will seriously face the consequences when election time comes, and that includes primaries," the president stated in a message posted on his Truth Social profile.
Trump defended the economic results of his administration and claimed that the trade deficit has been reduced by 78%.
He also highlighted that the Dow Jones index reached 50,000 points and that the S&P hit 7,000, figures he described as unimaginable just a year ago.
The president stated that his policies have strengthened both the economic and national security of the country and emphasized that no Republican should take on the responsibility of undermining those achievements.
The statement escalates internal pressure within the Republican Party and makes it clear that support for the presidential agenda will be a key issue in the electoral landscape.
And despite Trump's threats, the House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to reject the president's tariffs on Canada, reported AP.
Although it is an unusual opposition to the White House agenda, the gesture is largely symbolic, as some Republicans voted alongside Democrats despite objections from their party leadership.
