Three emblematic figures of the Cuban exile -Willy Chirino, Amaury Gutiérrez, and Emilio Estefan- shared their reflections on the current situation in Cuba and the hope of one day returning to a free homeland in an interview with N+ Univisión 23.
The three artists, whose careers have been defined by a constant defense of freedom and a candid critique of the political situation on the Island, agreed that the present represents a decisive stage for the country.
Amaury Gutiérrez: It's now or never
The singer-songwriter Amaury Gutiérrez, known for not separating his music from his civic commitment, spoke candidly about the contrast between his professional success and the suffering that he claims Cubans experience on the island.
"I acknowledge that I have been fortunate to achieve successes and build a career, but our people are suffering over there, and I cannot forget that," he said.
For the artist, the current moment allows no delays.
"It's now or never; it's either they leave or they leave. They were given a deadline," he emphasized.
His words reflect a strong stance on the need for immediate political change, as well as a deep identification with those who remain in Cuba facing economic hardships and a lack of freedoms.
Willy Chirino: Now it's really happening
For his part, Willy Chirino, one of the most representative voices of the Cuban exile and the author of anthems associated with the struggle for freedom, expressed that he feels more convinced than ever that the outcome is near.
"There have been moments when we see it coming and it doesn't happen. But this time, I have never felt so... convinced that the other day is on its way. That everyone is waiting for us," he assured.
Chirino has dedicated his art to keeping the hope of return alive and believes that the current scenario offers different signals compared to other times when the expectation for change did not materialize.
When asked if he can imagine singing again in Cuba for his people, he answered without hesitation: "A dream of a lifetime. We are very close, we are close."
Emilio Estefan: It is a historic moment
The music producer Emilio Estefan, a key figure in the international projection of Cuban culture, also shared his vision on the present and future of the island.
"It is a historic moment filled with so much pain, and so many people have lost their lives, so many political prisoners. There are people who have not seen freedom; in so many years, they have not experienced what a day of freedom feels like," he emphasized.
Estefan emphasized that the unity of the exile community is fundamental in this context and highlighted the role of new generations.
For the producer, the transformative drive must be accompanied by real opportunities for young people to lead the country's reconstruction.
"I believe that the people of Cuba are ready at this moment, that youth, give them the opportunity, and they can move forward," he pointed out.
Coincidence in the same desire
During the television conversation, the three artists expressed a shared conviction: Cuba's freedom is closer now than at other times, and when the moment arrives, they are willing to contribute to the national reconstruction based on their respective experiences.
His statements combine hope, accumulated pain, and renewed expectations.
Through music and cultural production, they have turned their career into a platform to highlight the Cuban reality and keep alive the desire to return to a Cuba where they can sing, create, and celebrate alongside their people.
