The President of the United States, Donald Trump, will host a summit with six Latin American leaders in Miami on March 7. This information was confirmed by a White House official.
The summit will feature Javier Milei (Argentina), Rodrigo Paz (Bolivia), Daniel Noboa (Ecuador), Nayib Bukele (El Salvador), Nasry Asfura (Honduras), and Santiago Peña (Paraguay).
Trump called the meeting a month and a half after ordering the capture of Nicolás Maduro. The operation has been utilized by the White House to reinforce what the president refers to as a reinterpretation of the Monroe Doctrine in the region.
This reformulation, according to Washington, is a central part of its new national security strategy. The plan includes eliminating drug trafficking organizations with a presence in Latin America and curbing China's growing influence in the region.
Since his return to power in January 2025, Trump has strengthened ties with Milei and Bukele, particularly on economic and immigration issues.
The governments of Noboa and Peña have publicly supported the policies of the U.S. administration in the region. Trump also endorsed Asfura in the recent elections in Honduras.
Furthermore, the arrival of Rodrigo Paz to power in Bolivia has strengthened cooperation between the Bolivian government and Washington.
