The case of young Cuban influencers Kamil Zayas and Ernesto Ricardo Medina, creators of the independent project El4tico, continues to gain international attention as one of the most recent violations of human rights in Cuba.

This time, the impact reached the headlines of the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

The newspaper dedicated its front page to the decision of the Provincial Court of Holguín to keep the two content creators in provisional prison, accused by the Prosecutor's Office of propaganda against the constitutional order and incitement to commit crimes, charges that could result in up to nine years in prison.

In its coverage, El Mundo emphasized that the Cuban regime seeks to silence influencers who, through their video editorials shared on social media, openly challenge the government and connect with a young audience on the island.

The newspaper described the space from where they recorded their content, “the little room,” as a modest area with peeling walls and an aging blackboard, symbolizing a deteriorated Cuba.

According to the published information, the Prosecutor's Office claims that the posts by Zayas and Medina incite a change in the constitutional order and defame the country's institutions.

However, organizations like Ciudadanía y Libertad reported that the young people remained isolated and without clear information about the charges during part of the process.

The case has also been marked by allegations of obstacles to the defense, including the hindrance of activist Yanet Rodríguez Sánchez travelling to the court, who filed a habeas corpus on behalf of the detainees.

Days earlier, the Spanish newspaper had already warned about the accusations against the creators of El4tico, indicating that the Cuban regime would be using broad and vague criminal figures to curb the influence of critical voices on social media.

The presence of the case in the headlines of a widely circulated media outlet in Spain confirms that the situation of Cuban influencers has transcended national borders and become a new focal point of international attention on the state of freedom of expression on the island.
