The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that many Cuban Americans “will be very happy when they can return and greet their relatives”, referring to the possibility of an agreement with the Government of Cuba.

"We have many great Cuban-Americans who will be very happy when they can return and greet their relatives," he expressed to the press.

Trump stated that the situation on the island is critical and reiterated that he believes it is necessary to reach an understanding.

The president also expressed interest in the situation of those who, in his words, were treated unfairly by the Cuban authorities in the past, and he assured that his administration, particularly Marco Rubio, is speaking with Havana.

His statements come amid the deep energy crisis facing the island, characterized by prolonged power outages and a fuel shortage.

Although he did not provide details about the content of the conversations or the possible terms of an agreement, he made it clear that his administration is evaluating scenarios to redefine the bilateral relationship at a time of high economic and political tension.

The reference to Cuban Americans highlights one of the key sectors in U.S. policy towards Cuba, especially in states like Florida, where the community has significant electoral weight.
