A young Cuban shared a video on TikTok that has sparked numerous reactions as she expressed her frustration after visiting several state-run stores in search of basic food items, only to find almost nothing to take home.
"I left my house with a clear idea in mind: to solve the problem, to buy the essentials, what’s needed to put a meal on the table. No luxuries," he recounted while walking through the aisles of a store.
According to him, he walked “down aisle after aisle” and only found kitchen products, personal hygiene items, and detergents. “I see products for the kitchen, for hair, detergent, cleaning supplies… but food, a little less,” he lamented.
The young woman confessed that, as she progressed, she kept asking herself the same question: “At what point did something so normal become so difficult?”
In the end, he explained that he ended up buying a shampoo and conditioner for his daughter because they were needed, but that wasn't what he had set out to find. When he reached the checkout, he faced another surprise: the lack of options led him to purchase a small pack of detergent.
"It wasn't what I went to look for, it wasn't my priority, it wasn't in my plans, but it was either that or leave the money like that," she stated. She walked out of the store with the detergent in hand and, as she said, with the feeling that getting food has turned into "an impossible mission."
The Cuban woman stated that she tried her luck at another establishment in hopes of finding something different, but she once again encountered empty shelves in the food section.
"If you made it to the end, tell me what you think. Were you as surprised as I was, or were you expecting something different?" he asked his followers at the conclusion of the video.
The testimony reflects a reality that many citizens report daily: the increasing difficulty in accessing basic products amid the economic crisis the country is experiencing, characterized by shortages, inflation, and instability in supply.
