The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, congratulated the team from Havana after they were proclaimed champions of the 108th National Football League of Cuba, recently concluded, the site JIT reported.

In a letter sent to Oliet Rodríguez Méndez, president of the Cuban Football Association (AFC), the highest official of the governing body of world soccer extended his congratulations to the so-called Lions, acknowledging the sustained effort of the team throughout the entire season.

"His tireless efforts and results throughout the season have borne fruit," Infantino stated in the message, where he also emphasized: "Congratulations to all the members of the team and the club for this great achievement."

The Havana team achieved the crown under the leadership of Lázaro Rodríguez, putting an end to a 24-year wait for titles, since the 2000-2001 season when the team was led to the championship by Francisco Fariñas.

Additionally, Havana launched a historic campaign by becoming the first team to win both the Apertura and Clausura tournaments since this competitive format was established in Cuban football.

In the letter, Infantino also thanked the AFC for its work in developing the sport on the Island and expressed his desire to meet again soon with its president.
