A Cuban resident in Prague has sparked debate on social media after posting a video on TikTok in which she states that she would return to Cuba if the situation in the country improves and becomes like it was 14 years ago.
In the video shared on her personal account, the woman expresses with evident nostalgia her desire to return to the Island if significant changes occur. “I don’t know about you, but I, if my Cuba is free one day and returns to the situation it was in 14 years ago, which is the age of my daughter, I will go back,” she asserts.
The Cuban woman acknowledges that life outside the country has not been easy and mentions the level of pressure she faces abroad. "In these countries, I've realized that there is immense stress," she remarks, alluding to the economic and labor demands that many emigrants experience.
Despite the difficulties that Cuba is facing, including power outages and the prolonged economic crisis, the woman assures that she would be willing to endure shortages if she perceives a real improvement in the country. “I don’t mind going through blackouts, I don’t care about anything, but if my Cuba improves, of course I would return,” she states.
His testimony reflects a sentiment shared by the Cuban diaspora: the desire to return to a nation with greater opportunities, stability, and freedom.
In recent years, hundreds of thousands of Cubans have left the Island, driven by the structural crisis the country is experiencing, characterized by scarcity, inflation, and a lack of future prospects.
The video has sparked divided reactions on social media. While some users support its stance and claim they would also return if significant changes were made, others point out that the current conditions are far removed from those of more than a decade ago.
The message, despite differences in opinion, brings to light a recurring desire among emigrants: the possibility of returning to a different Cuba, where they do not have to choose between economic stability and emotional ties.
