Fernando Mendoza proudly showcased his Cuban roots by posing next to the Cuban flag during the Combine 2026, in images shared on social media.

The official NFL account posted photographs of the quarterback, accompanied by the message "representing his roots," and announced that the 2026 Combine continues to stream on its platforms.

In the images, the young man, born in Miami, is seen draping himself with the Cuban flag, proudly displaying that although he is an rising star in American football, his roots are in the Caribbean nation.

The gesture generated reactions among public figures. Republican Congressman Carlos Giménez emphasized the athlete's pride in his Cuban-American heritage.

“Fernando Mendoza is proud of his Cuban-American heritage, and as a fellow Explorer at Christopher Columbus High School, we couldn't be prouder of him,” he wrote.

Mendoza, of Cuban origin, participates in the event that brings together prospects of college football looking to make the leap to professionalism, while emphasizing his connection to the Cuban community.

Recently, Mendoza wrote a historic page by winning the Heisman Trophy, which crowns him as the best player in college football in the United States.
