The Department of Homeland Security of the United States (DHS) issued a statement celebrating a new round of arrests made by ICE against individuals whom it describes as "threats to public safety."
Among the cases mentioned, he included that of Dairon González, an undocumented Cuban immigrant sentenced for theft in Tampa, Florida.
The information was published by DHS this Thursday, in a message in which the agency claims that, under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Noem, it is building "the safest border in history" and expelling "dangerous illegal immigrants" to make the country "safer" for future generations.
The statement presents the arrests in a section titled “Yesterday's Arrests,” and accompanies each case with the headline “Wow!”, also directing readers to the page WOW.DHS.Gov for more arrests reported by the agency.
In that list, the DHS included González along with other detainees identified as undocumented immigrants with convictions for murder, rape, kidnapping, and aggravated assault in various states across the country.
On her X account, Kristi Noem stated: "Nothing will stop us from making America SAFE again. Under President Trump's leadership, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is achieving the safest border in history, expelling dangerous illegal aliens and criminals, and making our communities safer for future generations."
For her part, Deputy Undersecretary Lauren Bis stated in the DHS note that "almost 70% of ICE arrests" involve undocumented immigrants "accused or convicted of a crime" in the United States, and added that this figure "doesn't even include" "foreign fugitives, terrorists, and human rights violators" without criminal records in the country.
Regarding the specific case of the Cuban, the DHS presents it briefly in the list: “Dairon González, an illegal immigrant criminal from Cuba, convicted of robbery in Tampa, Florida.”
The statement does not include the type of theft, the date of the conviction, the court, or the circumstances of the arrest.
In this context of coordinated federal operations and increasing public visibility of arrests, the spotlight returns to Cuban citizens with criminal records detained on U.S. soil as part of this strict enforcement strategy of immigration laws.
Weeks ago, the White House also highlighted the arrest of another Cuban citizen during a national ICE operation targeting individuals with criminal backgrounds.
In its official communications, the U.S. government emphasized that a significant portion of those detained in these operations has faced charges or previous convictions for offenses committed on U.S. soil.
The case was presented as an example of the immigration policy that prioritizes the detention and expulsion of foreigners with a criminal record, amid a climate of increased strictness in the enforcement of immigration laws.
