U.S. President Donald Trump oversaw military operations in Iran overnight from his Mar-a-Lago residence, accompanied by members of his national security team.
This was reported on Saturday by the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt. In an official statement, she noted that the president also had a phone conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamín Netanyahu, amid the escalating tensions in the region.
According to the statement, before the attacks, Secretary of State Marco Rubio contacted all members of the so-called "Group of Eight" in Congress to fulfill the corresponding notification.
Rubio was able to communicate and provide detailed information to seven of the eight members.
"The president and his national security team will continue to closely monitor the situation throughout the day," the spokesperson stated, without providing additional details about the specific nature of the military operations.
The official communication confirms the direct involvement of the highest level of the U.S. Executive in monitoring the events, as well as coordination with Israel and leadership from Congress on national security matters.
So far, the White House has not released any figures or additional information regarding the developments of the fighting in Iranian territory.
Trump announced on Friday night the start of "large combat operations in Iran," in coordination with Israel, marking a significant military escalation in the Middle East.
In a video message posted on his Truth Social network, the President stated that the offensive aims to "defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime" and reiterated that his administration will not allow Tehran to develop nuclear weapons.
"I'll say it again: they will never have a nuclear weapon," he asserted emphatically.
