Laura Loomer, a conservative journalist and influencer close to President Donald Trump, claimed that the United States will take over the economic management of Cuba within 30 days, citing a high-level source.

"High-level source tells me the United States will be assuming economic management authority of Cuba within 30 days," Loomer wrote on her account on the social network X, without providing additional details about the specific scope of that potential measure or publicly identifying the source.

This information is released on the same day that Trump stated that his administration will begin a “friendly and controlled takeover” of Cuba.

According to reporters David Alandete and Juan Esteban Silva, the leader described the island as "a failed nation" and asserted that the Cuban government "wants our help."

According to those reports, Trump stated that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is holding discussions "at the highest level" with the Cuban regime and reiterated that his approach will be a "friendly takeover."

He also noted that Cuba is facing an extremely serious economic situation, marked by a lack of resources and energy.

The president's remarks came just hours after it was reported that a discreet meeting took place between U.S. officials close to Rubio and Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, the grandson of Raúl Castro, on the sidelines of the CARICOM summit in the Caribbean, as reported by the Miami Herald.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the U.S. administration recently eased restrictions on fuel shipments to Cuba's emerging private sector, described as part of a broader strategy to increase Washington's influence over potential political and economic changes on the island.

So far, there has been no official announcement from the White House or the Department of State confirming that the United States will formally take over the economic management of Cuba, as Loomer claimed.

However, his statements contribute to a growing climate of speculation regarding the real extent of Trump's policy towards the island following his return to the presidency.
