A police operation in the Loma del Chivo neighborhood, in the municipality of Guantánamo, resulted in at least three people being detained this Saturday.

The official profile “Guantánamo y su Verdad” reported on Facebook that combined forces from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) conducted actions at two houses located on Serafín Sánchez Street, between Narciso López and Jesús del Sol.

The police operation is part of the "confrontation against drug trafficking" in the province. Among those detained are two women and a man identified as the alleged leader of the group.

During the raid, the agents reportedly seized several pieces of paper supposedly infused with synthetic cannabinoids—commonly known as "chemicals"—as well as an unspecified amount of cash and other materials related to the alleged criminal activity.

According to the publication, the main suspect allegedly showed resistance to authority and was "brought into submission." It is also claimed that he has a history of theft, breaking and entering, injuries, property damage, and assault, which, if confirmed, could worsen his legal situation.

So far, the authorities have not provided an official statement in state media with details about the case, nor has the exact amount of money seized or the specific quantity of the substance confiscated been reported. The preliminary legal qualification of the events has also not been clarified.

The official profile asserts that residents of the neighborhood predominantly supported the police intervention. However, there are no direct testimonials or identified statements included that would allow for independent verification of that reaction.

The trafficking and consumption of drugs, particularly synthetic cannabinoids, has raised increasing concern in several provinces of the country, amidst a context of economic crisis and social deterioration that authorities attribute to criminal activities, yet there is barely any publicly updated statistics provided on the matter.
