The General Customs of the Republic of Cuba detected more than 4,400 counterfeit stamps of Cohiba tobacco coming from the United States at the José Martí International Airport in Havana, reported Wiliam Pérez González, the first deputy chief of the institution.

According to the official on the social media platform X, following the discovery, administrative measures were enacted and the case was reported to the police to initiate the corresponding investigations.

Protection of registered trademarks

"Addressing counterfeiting and protecting our registered trademarks is a priority," noted Pérez González in his post.

Cohiba is one of the most iconic brands of Cuban tobacco and one of the most sought-after in the international market, which makes it a frequent target for counterfeiting.

So far, authorities have not provided details regarding the number of people involved or the destination of the seized stamps.
