The head of the U.S. mission in Cuba, Mike Hammer, met in Miami with the new commander of Southern Command, General Frank Donovan, to discuss the situation on the island.
The information was shared by the United States Embassy in Cuba through its social media, specifying that the meeting took place in Miami and focused on analyzing the current situation in Cuba.
Southern Command is the U.S. military structure responsible for operations and security cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean, which is why its assessments often carry weight in Washington's regional policy.
The meeting takes on significance in the current political context, marked by the increasing pressure from President Donald Trump's administration on the government of Miguel Díaz-Canel.
In recent months, Washington has intensified its critical rhetoric towards the Cuban regime and strengthened its support for segments of civil society and calls for political change on the island.
The meeting between Hammer, who has predicted the end of the dictatorship this year, and General Donovan takes place against this backdrop, where the United States continues to closely monitor the political and social developments in Cuba.
In this regard, this Thursday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that the Cuban regime "will also fall" and emphasized that the pressure exerted by his administration is directly affecting the crisis the Cuban government is facing.
Furthermore, he suggested that the deterioration of the situation on the island is a result of measures driven by Washington, including the cut in Venezuelan oil supplies that had sustained Havana for years.
