A poster with the phrase "Long live Mike Hammer" appeared painted on the wall of a building in downtown Santiago de Cuba, in a clear gesture of sympathy towards the chief of mission of the United States in Havana.
The activist Lara Crofs, whose real name is Yamilka Lafita, shared images of the graffiti on Facebook and wrote: “Now I really have to say it, Focotown with Yaya Panoramix. Santiago 1 x Industriales 0. The United States Embassy in Cuba, the real Cuban people, express their gratitude to the diplomat for standing by our side. Thank you, Mike, we Cubans will never forget you.”
In the comments, Rosi Reyes specified the location. "Corona and San Fernando. It's been there for days," she pointed out.
He then added that it is the wall of the hair salon located at that intersection, right in the city center, and that the message has been painted for more than a week.
He also commented that, in his opinion, if the authorities understood the meaning of the graffiti, they would have already removed it.
The event takes place amid a wave of support on social media for the American diplomat, following the recent release of a video published by the U.S. Embassy in Cuba showing him visiting an elderly woman in Cacocum, Holguín.
The reactions were not focused on politics, but on the human gesture.
In the comments on the video, numerous users stated that Hammer "is visiting the unseen in Cuba," that "not even the president does this," and that "he is doing what no one else does."
Others pointed out that the diplomat "goes where no Cuban leader has wanted to go" and expressed appreciation for him listening directly to the "everyday Cuban."
The public support contrasts with the attacks and smear campaigns that have recently been promoted by official media against the American representative.
Meanwhile, on social media and now also in the streets of Santiago de Cuba, some citizens openly express their recognition of the gestures towards the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
At the same time, the Cuban regime has organized several acts of repudiation against the American diplomat.
