The discovery of two lifeless fetuses outside a garbage container shocked residents of the city of Artemisa this Thursday, where authorities have launched an investigation to clarify what happened.
According to the state newspaper El Artemiseño, the bodies were discovered around 4:45 AM at the intersection of 40 and 33 Streets, known as the corner of Don Quijote, in the urban center of the provincial capital.
The discovery was made by workers responsible for waste collection in the area, who detected a yellow nylon placed next to a blue garbage container.
According to the report, the employees initially thought it was a dead animal.
However, when they tried to move the package to load it onto the cart used for garbage collection, the nylon opened slightly, and they were able to see that inside was a lifeless fetus.
Yoanis Díaz Velázquez, president of the small and medium-sized enterprise Licons, the entity responsible for solid waste collection in that area of the city, explained that the workers decided not to handle the contents and to secure the place while they alerted the authorities.
Shortly thereafter, officers in charge of recovering the body arrived at the scene.
However, during the procedure, it was found that it was not a single fetus.
The mayor of Artemisa, Eduardo Acosta Mora, confirmed that there were two fetuses in the package.
The bodies were moved to the Institute of Legal Medicine in San Antonio de los Baños for the necessary analyses.
The incident caused shock among neighbors and people who gathered at the scene while the procedures were being carried out.
Similar cases have been reported on social media in Artemisa and other provinces of the country.
Authorities indicated that the case is still under investigation to determine the circumstances in which the events occurred.
