The Cuba national team suffered a tough defeat of 2-19 against the Cincinnati Reds in an exhibition game held at Goodyear Ballpark in Arizona, in the last preparatory match before the start of the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

The Cincinnati team recorded 19 hits and made no errors, while the Cuban team managed to produce only five hits, scoring two runs and committing a couple of defensive mistakes.

This marks Cuba's second consecutive defeat against Major League teams, after losing 4-0 to the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

The game highlighted issues in all areas of play: a limited offense, struggling pitching, and defensive errors, which allowed the Reds to build a substantial lead.

Debut in the World Baseball Classic

After these preparatory games, the next commitment for the Cuban national team will be at the World Baseball Classic.

Cuba will compete in Group A, which will take place from March 6 to 11 at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where it will face Puerto Rico, Panama, Canada, and Colombia.

The debut of the team coached by Germán Mesa will be on March 6 against Panama.
