A body camera video released by authorities in Florida City shows the moment a Homestead Police Department officer was arrested after allegedly causing a traffic accident while driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing the scene.
The individual involved is Henry Quintero, who was 43 years old at the time of the incident and is now facing charges for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving, according to police reports and court documents.
The images shared by local media capture the moments following the incident, which occurred on September 2, 2025, around 3:30 p.m., at the intersection of US-1 and East Palm Drive, in Florida City, south of Miami-Dade.
A collision that ended with a vehicle overturned
According to the investigation, Quintero was driving a Honda CR-V when he allegedly ran a red light and collided with a Ford Bronco, causing that vehicle to flip over and ultimately strike a third car.
After the impact, the officer briefly stopped, but then left the scene of the accident, according to authorities.
A witness who saw the crash immediately called 911 and decided to follow the suspicious vehicle while informing the operators.
"I need you to send a police officer right now! He escaped," said the citizen in the emergency call that was later released.
The same witness described to the agents how the collision occurred.
“I was coming, and he was heading north. He was going to take the highway... then he collided with the car behind him and overturned it. He fled, and I turned around and followed him,” he explained.
The images of the arrest
The officers managed to locate Quintero about half a mile from the accident site, where he was inside a vehicle that was not his.
According to the police report, two individuals had come to the area with the intention of picking it up.
The body camera footage shows the moment when the officers confront him while he is talking to a woman who was with him.
"I don't think that car crashed," the woman can be heard saying in the video.
An agent immediately replied, "It collided with another car and this one overturned."
Another fragment shows the woman warning him about what happened: “The other car overturned, Henry.”
Shortly after, the agents escort him to a patrol vehicle and proceed to handcuff him.
"I'm going to put you in my vehicle, let's go," one of the police officers says before taking him to jail.
Signs of poisoning
According to the arrest report, when the officers approached Quintero, they detected a strong smell of alcohol, in addition to noticing that he had red, watery eyes and was speaking with slurred words.
The authorities indicated that the officer refused to perform sobriety tests on-site and also rejected a breathalyzer test.
He was subsequently taken to Jackson West Medical Center for a medical evaluation, but he also refused to receive treatment and declined to have blood tests, according to the report.
One of the passengers in the vehicles involved sustained multiple lacerations and required assistance from rescue teams.
Charges and judicial process
Prosecutors formally filed charges against Quintero for:
Driving under the influence of alcohol causing damage to property or individuals
-Leaving the scene of an accident
-Reckless driving
The prison records indicate that the agent paid a bail of $2,800 and was released.
When he was released from prison, journalists asked him about the accusations. His response was brief: "Not at this moment. I’m sorry."
His defense attorney has submitted a statement of innocence in the proceedings.
The Homestead Police Department confirmed that Quintero was relieved of duty without pay starting September 3, 2025, while the judicial process is underway.
According to the authorities, his criminal trial is scheduled for May, when his responsibility in the accident and the charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol will be determined.
