A protest that took place at midnight this Saturday in the city of Morón left five people detained and another injured, according to the official source Periódico Invasor, which attributed the events to a group of residents who took to the streets with demands mainly concerning the energy crisis and access to food.
According to that publication, the demonstration began with a gathering of several people, mostly residents of the El Vaquerito popular council, who marched through various streets of the city located in the northern part of the Ciego de Ávila province.
The state media noted that the complaints were primarily related to the situation of the electrical system and the difficulties in accessing food products.
According to the official version, what initially unfolded "peacefully" and followed an exchange with local authorities later resulted in "vandalistic acts" against the headquarters of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party.
The report states that a smaller group of people pelted the entrance of the building with stones and set a fire in the street using furniture from the reception.
The note adds that, preliminarily and through social media posts, reports were also received about damages in other establishments in Morón. Among them, it mentions a pharmacy and a sales point of the Tiendas Caribe chain.
The text, however, does not specify the extent of those damages nor does it provide a detailed account of the incidents outside the party headquarters.
As of the close of the reported information, five individuals remained in custody.
The lies of the regime
The official media also reported that another person, identified as someone who was "intoxicated," fell and was being treated at the Roberto Rodríguez General Hospital.
The publication does not provide its identity or any additional medical details about its health status.
Invasor also indicated that the specialized forces of the Ministry of the Interior were continuing their investigations to clarify what had happened.
The report does not provide the names of those detained, does not specify the possible charges against them, and also does not include testimonies from participants, family members, or independent witnesses.
Thus, although a young man was shot during the protest, official profiles and state media are trying to downplay what happened.
In recent hours, numerous videos have circulated on social media showing chants of "Freedom!" and sounds of pots and pans being banged as groups of residents marched through the streets of the municipality.
Other reports circulated by activists indicate that, following the initial confrontations, the demonstration moved towards the city police station.
The protests in Morón are taking place amid growing social discontent over prolonged power outages, food shortages, and the deterioration of living conditions in the country.
