The informal currency market in Cuba wakes up this Sunday with an important change: the dollar sets a new sales record for the second consecutive day.

In recent hours, the US dollar reached 513 CUP, which represents one peso more than the value it reached this Saturday.

The rise in the value of the U.S. dollar occurs in a context marked by the increasing social tension prevailing on the island, which reached its peak on Friday night, with disturbances in Morón that resulted in five arrests and a reported gunshot wound.

The euro, for its part, remains today at 575 CUP.

Exchange Rate Evolution

In the case of the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), it drops from 400 to 393 CUP, which represents a decrease of seven pesos, according to the daily report from elTOQUE, which documents the fluctuations of currencies.

Exchange rate today 03/15/2026 - 6:58 a.m. in Cuba:

Dollar exchange rate USD to CUP according to elTOQUE: 513 CUP.

Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP according to elTOQUE: 575 CUP.

Exchange rate of MLC to CUP according to elTOQUE: 393 CUP.

The rates published by elTOQUE have become one of the main indicators for measuring the real value of the Cuban peso against foreign currencies, in a context where the official exchange rate remains far removed from the reality of the market.

Foreign currencies are primarily used for emigration, importing goods, protecting savings against inflation, or making purchases in the growing private sector, which keeps the pressure on the informal market high.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state wages, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, the behavior of the informal currency market continues to have a direct impact on internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.
