The Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel thanked the "dear brother" Andrés Manuel López Obrador, after the request for money for the regime made by the former Mexican president.

“Thank you, dear brother López Obrador. On behalf of Cuba, I will never tire of expressing gratitude for the generous solidarity and support of Mexico towards the heroic resistance of the Cuban people,” Díaz-Canel said on X.

"And we will never forget your constant and decisive support in strengthening that cherished friendship," he added.

Yesterday, former Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador emerged from his retirement to request financial support for the Cuban regime.

AMLO, who rarely speaks publicly after leaving the presidency, invited people to deposit money into the bank account of the civil association "Humanity with Latin America," established by citizens, writers, and journalists to purchase food, medicines, oil, and gasoline, and to assist the Cuban people. "Let everyone contribute what they can!"

The leftist leader stated that he is in retirement, but it "hurts him that they seek to exterminate, because of their ideals of freedom and defense of sovereignty, the brother people of Cuba."

"To those who think this is someone else's fight, I remind you of what General Cárdenas said during the invasion of Playa Girón: 'It is not lawful to advocate for our indifference to their heroic struggle, for their fate is our own,'" he added

According to the media LatinUs, Humanidad con América Latina A.C. received its authorization to operate just last week: on Monday, March 9.

The association is registered in the name of Carlos Pellicer Cámara's nephew, who was a teacher and political mentor to López Obrador, they add.

The government of AMLO's successor, Claudia Sheinbaum, has remained one of the closest allies of the Cuban regime.

On Friday, at least two vessels from the Mexican Navy arrived at the port of Havana with a new shipment of humanitarian aid intended for Cuba.

According to social media posts by the Cuban ambassador to Mexico, Eugenio Martínez Enríquez, the boats are transporting donations sent by the Mexican government and people to alleviate the severe crisis on the island.

The state portal Cubadebate noted that the shipment includes food, hygiene products, and medical supplies donated by Mexico.

Díaz-Canel expressed his gratitude for the gesture and highlighted Mexico as one of the countries that has most supported the island in the current circumstances.

According to preliminary reports released by journalist Bernardo Espinosa, this shipment would be the third batch of material aid sent by Mexico to Cuba, amid the serious economic crisis and shortage of basic goods facing the island.

So far, no details have been specified regarding the total volume of the cargo or the exact date when the resources will be distributed within the country.

Cuba is facing a situation characterized by shortages of food, medicine, and fuel, as well as frequent blackouts affecting much of the population, amid the oil embargo and rising tensions with the Trump Administration.
