Trump on Cuba: "It is a very weakened nation right now."

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that Cuba is going through a moment of great weakness and criticized the political and economic situation the island faces under the communist regime.

During a press appearance in which he spoke about the future of the Caribbean nation, the leader addressed the crisis currently affecting the country.

“It’s a beautiful island, with great weather and wonderful people,” Trump stated while speaking about Cuba.

However, he immediately described the country as "a very weakened nation right now," referring to the economic, political, and social difficulties the island is facing.

The U.S. president also remarked that he has been hearing about the relationship between the United States and Cuba and the possibility of changes in the country for years.

"I have heard about the United States and Cuba all my life. When will the United States do it? I believe I will have the honor of doing so," he said.

The statements were made while Trump discussed the role that exiled Cubans and entrepreneurs who left the island after the 1959 revolution could play.

In that context, he mentioned the Cuban-American Fanjul family, one of the most influential business dynasties among the Cuban exile community, which built a powerful sugar empire in the United States after leaving Cuba.

Trump also noted that many Cubans who emigrated to the United States managed to thrive economically and highlighted their entrepreneurial spirit.
