Cuban actor Armando Tomey shared a reflection on social media about the situation in the island, expressing sadness over the reality faced by many Cubans and showing solidarity with those who remain in the country.

“Walking through the city made me sad. The cyclist asked us about Cuba. Cuba suffers from misery, repression, and cries out for freedom. Even if you live abroad and your life is pleasant and comfortable, the pain and sadness for your loved ones suffering calamities and repression, sunk in darkness and despair, remind you that you are part of that absurd world,” the actor wrote in a Facebook post accompanied by a video in which he showed the moment he met an Argentine cyclist.

In the same comment thread, Tomey added another message emphasizing the need to express solidarity with those who remain on the island: “One cannot turn a blind eye knowing that your people are suffering; at the very least, be honest and express your pain and solidarity with them. Those of us who left have not lost the right to voice our opinions. We are part of our homeland and our people.”

Tomey, one of the well-known faces of Cuban television for decades, participated in popular productions such as Sol de Batey and other soap operas and series that made him familiar to several generations of viewers on the island.

The actor emigrated to the United States in 2013 along with his wife Raisa Ramos and their children. Years later, he explained that he made this decision after facing economic difficulties and professional limitations for a long time. In an interview, he recounted that in Cuba he "lived to survive, not to thrive," and that despite his artistic career, material insecurity and the restrictions of the cultural environment ultimately influenced his decision to leave, as he explained why he decided to emigrate to the United States.

Graduating from the Instituto Superior de Arte in 1981, he initially developed his career in theater before gaining popularity on television. Over the years, he participated in numerous dramatic and entertainment productions that established him as a recognized actor in the Cuban audiovisual scene.

After settling in the United States, the artist reinvented himself professionally while remaining connected to the artistic world. In Miami, he has participated in theatrical projects and has also completed other work, while keeping in touch with the Cuban audience through his social media.
