The former Spanish president Pablo Iglesias continues his ideological safari through the theme park of the Revolution and has announced an upcoming interview with the Cuban leader.
After downplaying the Cuban crisis in a video recorded from a five-star hotel room, the former leader of Podemos strolled this Sunday with a solemn expression, in a video posted on his X account, through a mostly empty Plaza de la Revolución.
In the promotional video for his upcoming interview with Díaz-Canel, Iglesias poses next to the statue of Martí, which he has been staring at intently for several seconds, parading through the square as if on the runway of the most retrograde international left
Finally, the European visitor is going to unexpectedly arrive at the entrance of the Palace of the Revolution, where a smiling Díaz-Canel comes out to embrace him.
Iglesias, who is visiting Cuba as part of the Flotilla Nuestra América, has been the subject of criticism for downplaying the situation in Cuba from his privileged position.
Criticism arises after Iglesias recently stated that the situation in Cuba "is difficult, but not as it is described from the outside", following a meeting with Communist Party officials in Havana.
Among others, the Spanish influencer Marta Ojeda, known for her channel Ahorraconmarta, lashed out at the former leader of Podemos.
In her post, the content creator described him as "despicable" for, in her words, downplaying the crisis that the island is facing from a privileged position, distant from the real conditions that Cubans endure.
"How despicable do you have to be to go to Cuba, stay in a luxury hotel, and say that the situation there isn't as bad as they want to sell it to us?" he expressed.
The young woman criticized Iglesias for making such evaluations while many citizens on the island are suffering from power outages, food shortages, lack of medicine, and issues with access to water.
